Teaching Artist Project

 The goal of the Teaching Artist Project is twofold:
1) to provide children with high quality arts instruction; 
2) to provide hands-on professional development opportunities for teachers who have limited experience with visual and performing arts instruction.

K-2 Teaching Artist Project

The Teaching Artist Project partners K-2 teachers to professional teaching artists to co-teach 27 arts lessons during his or her first year in the program. In the second year, each K-2 teacher will teach these same lessons on their own, with the support of resource teachers.

Five schools serving high-poverty neighborhoods are scheduled to begin the program in the 2007-08, 2008-09, and 2009-10 school years (for a total of 15 schools). This project is made possible by a $828,000 Improving Teacher Quality grant from the California Postsecondary Education Commission to the UCI Center for Learning in the Arts, Sciences, and Sustainability, in partnership with the San Diego Unified School District
